When the DNA of blood cells gets damaged, it causes leukemia. DNA of white blood cells is more damaged during blood cancer. The reason is that blood cells grow continuously and are divided. Healthy blood cells perish in a short time and they are replaced by new blood cells that produce bone marrow. But cancer-prone blood cells do not die but grow larger and occupy more space. These cells prevent healthy blood cells from growing and functioning. At the same time, the number of sick cells in the blood increases and the number of healthy cells decreases. This is the reason why blood cancer becomes fatal.
